Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III, the Great, 336-323 BC. AR Tetradrachm (17.22 g) minted posthumously, likely at Amphipolis, c. 320-317 BC. Head right of Herakles wearing lion's skin headdress. Reverse: Zeus enthroned left, holding eagle and scepter; in left field, dolphin downwards; under throne, monogram. Price 133; M. 542. Luster mainly confined to reverse. NGC graded Ch AU Star; Strike 5/5; Surface 5/5.

The Attic standard was used for the coinage of Alexander the Great. Tetradrachms weighed circa 17 grams, whereas the lighter Thraco-Macedonian weight standard was utilized by his father, Philip II. This called for Philip's tetradrachms to weigh around 14.4 grams.
