Kingdom of Macedon. Alexander III, the Great, 336-323 BC. Gold Stater (8.55 g) minted at Sidon, 324-323 BC. Head right of Athena wearing triple-crested helmet, decorated with snake. Reverse: Nike standing left, holding wreath and stylis; in left field, palm branch (off flan), Aramaic letter (designating year 10 = 324-323 BC); Sidon mint letters at bottom. Price 3490a (these dies, plate XII); M. 1410; Newell (Sidon) 31. Marks on edge (probably mounted, imparting an artificial look). Fine.
