1899, $5 Silver Certificate. Fr-280. Washed. Many early large size bills, when they got soiled, were washed intentionally by collectors; in the case of others, it was an instance of accidentaly immersion in a wash tub with the weekend laundry! Because "paper" money in those days was made of cotton and linen fibers, it could be washed without major injury to the bill itself. PCGS graded Apparent Very Fine 20.
