Blank Planchet for 1840-1857 Half Cent. AU-50. Attractive glossy light chocolate brown. No defects, only the usual collection of tiny planchet chips that usually disappear when the planchet is struck between coin dies. The rims are upset and ready for striking (Stage II). Diameter is 22.4 millimeters and the weight is 83.9 grains, both consistent with the standards. This is an example of Breen's type "C" planchet prepared by Crocker Brothers and discussed on page 471 of his half cent encyclopedia.
