Lot 290

1852 N-15 R3 PCGS graded MS64 Red & Brown. Highly lustrous bluish steel and olive brown with nearly a third of the mint color showing, mostly on the reverse. The only marks are a trio of faint spots of slightly darker toning in the field under star 5 and a nick-like planchet chip at the top of the L in LIBERTY (as struck). This cent offers great eye appeal. Nicely struck with radial lines visible in all the stars. M-LDS, die state c. The points at NE in ONE are gone but the die lines in the space right of the Y in LIBERTY remain clear. Our grade is MS64+, very close to MS65. Second finest known of the variety in the Grellman census and very close to being tied for finest. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; none finer for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $500-UP

Ex Kenneth Goodman Collection, McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Goldbergs 1/26/2014:873-Fred Iskra Collection (lot ticket included).
