Ptolemaic Egypt. Ptolemy I Soter, as Satrap, 323-305 BC. AR Tetradrachm (15.68 g), by the "Delta" Master. Struck in the name of Alexander III of Macedon, Alexandria mint, c. 310-305 BC. Diademed head of Alexander right, wearing elephant's skin headdress. Reverse: Athena Alkidemos advancing right, brandishing spear and holding shield; helmet, XA monogram, and eagle to right. Svoronos 162; Jenkins, Early Group E; BMC p. 4, 33; SNG Cop. 29. A little striking flatness to Athena, but obverse portrait outstanding! Lustrous, with wonderful iridescent peacock toning to the obverse -- ranging from greenish golds, to russet and violet, and bright cobalt blues. Extremely Fine.
