Lot 2602

1904 $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-62. Lightly toned reflective surfaces on both sides gives this attractive MS62 the edge over satiny specimens. Scholars are mixed as to the origin of prooflikes, but the common belief is that coins that are struck from newly installed dies are the ones that turn out to be prooflike. After 100 or 200 strikes, the dies begin to lose their high polish and begin to form microscopic radial stress lines whose "satin" or "luster" effect on the struck coin is familiar to all (PCGS # 9045) .
Estimated Value $625 - 650.
