Lot 260

1797 S-124 R5+ G5. Slightly sharper in many areas but the wear on the reverse is a bit uneven and the planchet is covered with microscopic porosity under a rather glossy medium olive and steel patina. No verdigris. A rim bruise over the B in LIBERTY and a smaller one under the 9 in the date are the notable marks, but they are not distracting. The date is weak due to the usual swelling at the 179 but it remains easily readable. Most of the legends are strong but a few letters on the reverse are faint due to the uneven wear. E-MDS Breen state III.
Estimated Value $1,000-UP.
