Lot 2508

Great Britain. Sovereign, 1825. S.3801; Fr-377; KM-696. George IV. Bare head. An uncirculated specimen with delightful surfaces and a faint tangerine tone. Catalogues at around $4700 in basic Unc. NGC graded MS-61 Silver Sticker. WINGS Approved.

* This was the second type of Sovereign produced in George IV's ten year reign. It is said that the King was displeased with Benedetto Pistrucci's portrait which featured on the early Sovereigns (1821-1825) and he was much happier when Pistrucci's heavy-jowled (laureate) royal image was replaced with Francis Chantrey's more flattering (bare headed) bust.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000.
