1847 N-36 R6- EF40. Ten points sharper but there is a patch of very fine roughness at stars 8-9 and a dull rim nick or tiny rim bruise under star 13. Lightly cleaned and retoned glossy light bluish steel brown and chocolate with medium brown toning on the highpoints. Frosty mint luster shows in protected areas of the reverse while the obverse is covered with extremely fine sandpaper-like roughness from die rust, as always on this variety. EDS, die state a. The die lines on the reverse are sharp. (There is no state b for this variety.) Tied for CC#2 honors in the Grellman census behind a marginally finer example. Removed from an NCS slab graded Uncirculated details improperly cleaned (NCS label included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance). DWH #2989.
