Lot 244

1851 N-12/11 R1 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous medium brown and light chocolate with traces of mint red showing on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and quite attractive with subtle overtones of light bluish steel. The only notable mark, and it is trivial, is a tiny swipe of darker toning at the peak of the first 1. LDS, die state d (Newcomb's #11). The die lines at the inner and main curls are gone. A nice cent that comes with a nice provenance. Our grade is MS60. The attribution and Iskra provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; 1 finer in 66 for the variety at PCGS. Estimated Value $300-UP

Ex R. S. Brown, Jr., Superior 9/30/1986:1297 (where misattributed as N-39)-Jack H. Robinson, Superior 1/29/1989:1577-R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:919-Fred Iskra Collection (includes the Brown collection envelope and both lot tickets).
