Byzantine Empire. John V and Anna of Savoy, 1341-1347. Silver Basilikon (1.01g), Constantinople. 1341/2. The deceased Andronicus III, on l., kneeling before facing stg. figure of the Virgin, nimbate, on r., who extends her r. hand over the emperor in blessing. Rev. Anna of Savoy (on l.) and her son John V, on r., both crowned and stg. facing, the empress holding trefoil scepter, the emperor holding akakia and cruciform sceptre. DOC 945-53; PCPC 200; LPC p. 122, 8; Sear-Bendall 2475. Fine and rare.
