Byzantine Empire. John III, Ducas (Vatatzes), 1221-1254. Gold Hyperpyron Nomisma (3.36g), Magnesia. 1232-54. Another, similar to previous, but with star above arm of Christ's throne to l. DOC 8a var. (star to r.); Hendy pl. 32, 3-5; Sear-Bendall 2073. Good very fine and a rare variant, but edge clipped.
