Byzantine Empire. Manuel I, 1143-1180. Electrum Aspron Trachy Nomisma (3.98g), Constantinople. 1152-67. Christ seated facing on backless throne, wearing nimbus cr., raising r. hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels. Rev. The Virgin, nimbate, on r., and Manuel, crowned and wearing jeweled loros and holding akakia, on l., both stg. facing, holding between them long patriarchal cross with small globus at base. DOC 3a; Hendy pl. 13, 3-4; Sear 1958. Extremely Fine, the emperor's face weakly struck, double-striking on obverse.
