Guatemala. Central American Republic. 8 Escudos, 1824-NG M (Nueva Guatemala). Fr-26; KM-8. Sun over five mountain peaks. Reverse Tree on foliate ground, value on either side. A few minor surface marks, otherwise well struck with considerable luster. A classic rarity. Very rare with few known pieces for this two year type. There are perhaps only a half dozen examples known in high grade. The Millennia specimen NGC graded MS-63 Prooflike, realized $166,750. NGC graded AU-58.
