Lot 2100

Great Britain. Pattern Penny, 1860. Queen Victoria. Peck-2121. Struck in silver. Plain edge. Peck calls this Very Rare. These were wonderfully conceived pieces, and mostly show up in copper, usually only when great collections are offered. Interested collectors should review Peck's extensive comments beginning on page 483 of his reference work, for they are interesting. This is a lovely example, with deep silvery gray surfaces enhanced by some delightful iridescence. The image of Britannia on the reverse contains virtually every historic symbol of the land! Purchased mainly to study the engraving, which is exemplary even for the Victorian age. PCGS graded Proof 64.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,200.
