Lot 2024

$5 Liberty. 1849-C. PCGS graded EF-45. A scarce date in most grades, and this one is better than most. The surfaces show above average marks, but the color is a rich coppery gold, with a touch of milky haze on the obverse. A couple of minor areas of amateur spot removal on the lower reverse, with resulting pin scratches at the CA of AMERICA. We note a die crack on the reverse from the edge through the left upper tip of the serif of U in UNITED to the branch. Here's a coin that has been off the market for 57 years (PCGS # 8241) .
Estimated Value $900 - 1,000.
From the Benson collection and purchased from Gardener on May 10, 1945 for $10.00.

Realized $1,323
