Kaiulani. Personal prayer book signed "Victoria Kaiulani October 7th 1889" on the title page. The well-worn book is Book of Family Prayer. Psalms, Lessons, & Prayers, For Every Morning and Evening in the Week (London: George Bell and Sons, 1888), 72 pp, 8vo. Kaiulani went to England in April 1889 to study, thinking she would be gone for one year only, but because of the political turmoil in Hawaii which wrenched the throne from her, she would not see her beloved Hawaii again until 1897. Although her half sister, Anna, was with her in England the first year, she missed her father and her extended family in Hawaii greatly and must have turned for comfort to her devotions.
