Lot 1801

1905-S $20 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-64. Mostly untoned and well struck. The cupboard is nearly empty when a collector steps through the door of a major coin convention hoping to find a few gleaming, original $20 gold pieces like this '05-S (1.8 million mintage). Yet we agree it is refreshing to see that bidders can exercise their knowledge by bidding heavily without conflicting emotions on the various S-mint twenties in the sale. All were acquired by a gentleman with a eye for detail. Clearly, he had a professional's sense and understanding of "quality." Pop 119; 6 in 65, 1 in 67 (PCGS # 9048) .
Estimated Value $4,500 - 5,000.

Realized $4,025
