Sale 4

Lot 1754

Rare 1872 Ten-Piece Proof Set. Proof 62 to Proof 64. Seated dollar, half, quarter, dime and half dime. Shield nickel. Trime. 3c Nickel. Two center. Indian cent. The dollar appears to be a pleasing PR64, maybe a 63 because of some slides on the knees, with brilliant mirrors and a band of iridescent golden blue on the obverse periphery and an even film of pale golden iridescence on the reverse mirrors. The quarter looks to be a real nice PR64, white, maybe the nicest coin here. The half dime has some lovely magenta toning. The bronzes are a tawny red color, the cent speckled but the 2c piece orangy red. This set seems put together rather than original. Housed in an old lucite case. Look closely--this is worth some study. Total of 10 pieces.

Realized $14,375
