Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 65

Lot 1588

1890-CC. PCGS graded MS-65 Prooflike. A blast white gem. This is a sparkling silver specimen radiating mint bloom, powerfully struck and impeccably preserved. Unlike most which are not quite fully struck, this marvel of precision minting shows all regions crisply detailed including the centers. Furthermore, 1890-CC tends to be frosty. Only a few coins were struck by new dies, as this one must have been to display such fine prooflike originality. All dies are polished when made. Once inserted into the equipment and a production run started, the die polish soon wears off on Morgan Dollar dies, leaving the finished coins lustrous or frosty. A small fraction of any year’s mintage, often a very small fraction, has this degree of lovely prooflike reflection in the fields. Contrasted by raised, frosted devices. Pop 13; none finer (PCGS # 7199) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,300.
