Lot 1562

1927-S Liberty Walking Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-64. Very clean surfaces. Lightly toned. Some marks on the leg and body, and minor weakness of the hand where it crosses the leg. Pop 235; 50 in 65; 5 in 66. (PCGS # 6587) .

If you have ever wondered what things cost back in the year this fifty-cent piece was made, we have been looking over our books, magazines and souvenir sale catalogs, and it looks like 1927 -- the year Charles Lindberg earned his fame -- would have been a banner year for dancing:

It cost fifty cents to get into the Savoy Ballroom
A steak sandwich at the Cotton Club cost $1.25
You could buy a phonograph record for $0.39
A raccoon coat would set you back $39.50
A console radio was $72.50
A man's suit (coat, vest, 2 pair of pants) was $15.85.
Estimated Value $2,600 - 3,000.

Unsold
