Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 2

Lot 1498

1899. PCGS graded MS-63 DMPL. Remember the old story of the cartel of investors, back in the "good ole days," who tried to corner the market on this date? They thought, with just 330,000 struck, and dollars at a few bucks each, they could own them all. They never could. They finally figured out that the mintage figures must be wrong. Still in all, 1899 is a popular date, and with mirror surfaces like this coin possesses it's quite desirable. This one has some abrasions, even on the face, but also has some pizzazz. In truth, the mirrors would probably show their flash better outside the holder.
