Lot 1435

1873 Pattern Trade Dollar. Silver, reeded edge. . J-1281. . P-1423. NGC graded Proof 65 Rarity 4. Light gold and blue toning. Housed in an old holder. An hard to believe array of supporting mint flash brightens the colorful highlights. Nicely struck with the design comparable to the best preserved specimens of this Judd variety. If you have been flipping through the pages of Judd in a perfunctory manner when studying these intriguing Pattern Trade dollars, then a glance at the Judd-1281 listing will give a short background description but little in the way of the scarcity of the Type in Gem Proof condition. That is where the grading census enters the picture: Pop 4; 2 finer at NGC (PCGS # 61566) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 9,000.
