Sale 2

Lot 1207

1916-D. MS-65 Full Bands. The key date to the Mercury Dime series in fully struck gem condition. A glass fails to locate the usual signs of contact; the fields, devices and rims are all clean and undiminished. The obverse has an original golden to brown tone, while the reverse remains untoned. Satiny luster abounds. Boldly struck throughout, with the central bands showing full separation. Only 264,000 were struck, some of which were saved, but most entered circulation in late 1916. One of the Denver Mint's most sought-after rarities.
