Lot 1173

1860-D $5 Liberty. Medium D. PCGS graded AU-55. Mostly untoned. A smoothly lustrous specimen with clean surfaces plus outstanding aesthetic appeal. A truly notable specimen of this highly prized Dahlonega issue.

The mintage of the 1860-D amounted to 14,635 pieces, of which few can be traced in any grade. The present About Uncirculated 55 is one of a handful of coins that have been graded this high by PCGS. A particularly nice specimen, it will no doubt be housed in some of the more famous cabinets in numismatic history when the provenance is taken years hence. Pop 19; 31 finer. (PCGS # 8286) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000.

Realized $4,600
