Lot 1133

1890 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-66. Deep iridescent blue and pastel golden gray toning covers both sides with fiery luster beneath. The fields look like those of a Proof, but the mirrors do not extend into the "field" of the shield, the rims and certain details are not sharp enough for a Proof, and some tiny abrasions may be found here and there--so this is one of those very rare circulation or business strikes, of which just 12,000 were minted in 1890. One of only 6 so graded by NGC, with a scant 4 graded higher by that service. Pop Reports aside, this is a delightful coin that drips with visual appeal.

Realized $2,645
