Byrd, Richard E, Collection of Documents and 7 Signatures. (1888-1957). Collection of 7 pieces. American aviation pioneer and Antarctic explorer. Signature ("RE Byrd"). First six signed checks with Byrd's signature boldly executed on each, all from the 30s. Also a signed cover, 5¾ x 3½", n.p., n.d. Five cent airmail stamp cancelled S.S. City of New York, February 19, 1930. Large purple stamp with depiction of Antarctica and "South Pole Air Mail" at center bottom. Also signed by Harold J. June, A. R. McKinley, B. Balchen. Minor age toning, small stain at right edge. In very good condition. Finally included are three letters with three envelopes from the Byrd Antarctic Expedition II (1934-1935). The letters, on official Expedition letterhead, are signed by Clay Bailey, Chief Radio Operator: two letters are short lines of holiday greeting and the third is more descriptive of the conditions and lifestyle at "Little America" -- Byrd's camp in Antarctica.
