Diana, Princess of Wales (1961-1997). Born Diana Spencer, she was the first wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, the heir apparent to the crown behind Queen Elizabeth II. She had two sons and was perhaps the most beloved member of the Royal Family. After intense public scrutiny, she divorced Charles in 1996, but remained the object of worldwide media attention. Her death in a car crash in Paris in August of 1997 shocked the world, inspiring an outpouring of mourning almost unprecedented in modern times. Offered here is a beautiful 8 x 10" color portrait of Diana, resplendent in a green dress at a banquet at Claridges, wearing the Spencer diamond tiara and Queen Mary's cabochon emerald and diamond choker necklace. She has written and incription and signed her name boldly in black felt tip pen, "Thank you / Diana. / 97. X" Photo and signature in mint condition. Estimated Value $400 - 600

Louis XV, King of France (1710-1774). "Louis the Beloved"was a monarch of the House of Bourbon who ruled France from 1715 until his death. It was he who ceded New France in North America to Spain and Great Britain at the conclusion of the Seven Years' War in 1763. Decisions made during his reign ultimately damaged the power of France, weakened the treasury, and discredited the absolute monarchy, making it more vulnerable to distrust and destruction. Manuscript document signed ("Louis"), in French, 1 page, vellum, 13 x 20", Compiègne, France, September 10, 1760. Creased three times vertically and once through the horizontal center, with further creases and a 6" tear at the lower right, but still very good. Estimated Value $500 - 700

Louis XVI, King of France (1754-1793). Ruler of France from 1774 until his deposition in 1792. His attempts to reform France, including abolition of serfdom, removal of the taille, deregulation of the grain market, and increased tolerance of non-Catholics, contributed to social and financial crisis. This, along with an increasing perception of Louis as a tyrant, prompted the French Revolution, and in 1793, the former King, along with his Queen, Marie-Antionette, were guillotined. Document signed ("Louis"), in French, 1 page, vellum, 11½ x 19", Versailles, France, April 13, 1780. Countersigned by Louis-Joesph de Bourbon (1736-1818), Prince of Condé and Prince du Sang. Being a military commission. With just some light creasing, this item is in very good to fine condition. Estimated Value $500 - 700
