French and Indian War Era Letter of Marque Handwritten Manuscript, 1757. French and Indian War dated handwritten manuscript, a copy of an original Letter of Marque dated May 17, 1756 originally issued by William Greene four term Governor of the Colony of Rhode Island and the Providence Plantations. In the days of fighting on the open seas, a letter of marque and reprisal was a government license authorizing a person (known as a privateer) to attack and capture enemy vessels and bring them before admiralty courts for condemnation and sale. In part: "…by his most Sacred majesty, George the Second by the grace of god King of great Britain contained to Declare war against France and there upon given orders for the granting Commission or Letters of Marque to any of his loving Subjects and others Deemed fully qualified in that behalf for the Apprehending, Seizing and Taking the Ships and goods belonging to France……Given under my hand and Seal of the Colony aforesaid this Ninth Day of August Anno Domini 1757 and in the Thirty first year of his paid reigns W Green" On verso is written " This is to Certify the within written Commission is a true copy and that John Brown is my first Lieutenant on Board of the Brig mar's -" and signed Geo. Huntz. Document written on laid paper has been nicely archived with center fold line exhibiting very minor separation, measures 23" x 16" and exhibits usual age toning.

Letter Dated 1783, Wilkes County, Georgia Colony Regarding Indians, Treaty. Autographed letter signed written August, 1783 from James and Mary Whiteside from Wilkes County, Georgia to his brother, John Whiteside of Mecklengburg Co., North Carolina. Letter measures 12½" x 8" marginal chipping to left side, toning and some stains. He reports on his fine crops but more importantly: "…The Indians keep coming in and stealing horses. It is expected that there will be no treaty this year…." The letter continues: :…Most of our county is settled with Baptists and what few Methodists, we can have preaching any time." Located in east central Georgia, Wilkes County was created in 1777 and named for John Wilkes, a member of the British Parliament who opposed some of the British policies that eventually led to the American Revolution. The county is historically known for the Battle of Kettle Creek, a decisive conflict of the war where British forces were solidly defeated.

Letter Dated 1813 Recounting Indian Atrocities in Ohio. An autographed letter signed by a Patience Whedon, dated Bloomfield, Ohio, January 30, 1813 who informs her sister, Anna Andrews of Massachusetts that three Indians killled her son while in a bunk house after setting traps. "….Took an ax and struck him on the small of his back…." and the details become far more gruesome of his murder as well as another. who was with him. Letter is one and one-half pages of one leaf, 7¾" x 12½", is stained, age-toned with minor separations to the fold lines. Letter remains quite legible, the details, certainly tragic.

Vintage Colonial Currency. Collection of 3 Colonial paper dollars, 2¾x 3¾ in. each, 2 bills are dated December 7, 1775 and the other October 20, 1777, issued in Maryland and Virginia. The lot also includes a vintage 1880 Panama Canal Bond Certificate "Compagnie Universelle du Canal Interoceanique de Panama", dated Paris, November 29, 1880, No. 532989, for 500 Francs, issued and uncancelled, with a facsimile signature of Ferdinand De Lesseps; a Vietnam Nam Dong 5 dollar bill; and three small 1944 French Franc paper bills. All items in very good condition.
