Roman Pyramidal Signet, ca. 1st-3rd Century AD. A white chalcedony pyramidal signet engraved on three sides of piece. First side is engraved with the image of Mercury wearing a helmet standing left; he has a money bag draped over left arm and holds a spear, or caduceus, on right arm. The reverse side depicts similar helmeted Mercury but he walks left and holds a leafy caduceus. The bottom is engraved with a soldier wearing a crested helmet and walking left; he holds a large shield behind himself with left arm. Drilled for suspension. Measures: 24 X 18 mm.

Decorative Bronze Attachment, ca. 1st-3rd Centuries AD. Female head facing, with short, centrally, parted hair. From the head, in a crest-like shape, two curved volutes with raised circular protrusions, the center recurring into a double volute, each with a circular protrusion; surmounted by a partial hand. The reverse bears two partial attachment pins. These attachments were commonly found on Roman parade helmets, elaborate furniture, large bronze implements, etc. Pleasing emerald green patina. Measures: 6 X 5 cm.

Around the perimeter of the piece is am embellishment of finely twisted gold decoration. Loop attached to top for suspension. Wearable. Measures: 21.5 X 16 mm. Weighs: 2 gm.

The Alexander White III Collection of Artifacts and Relics. Housed in a desk top 4-drawer wooden and glass writer's cabinet is a collection of 70 items. Consists of numerous periods and cultures such as Egyptian, Luristan, Greek, Roman, Sasanian and Byzantine. We note the following: Ancient Egyptian mummy bead necklace, amulets and an overseer faience Ushabiti; Small Roman glass vials and bronze figures. A highlight item is a lovely Roman bronze lion's head with ring, probably used as a door or furniture handle; Sasanian stamp seals; A collection of Byzantine bronze crosses including reliquary types and a silver communion spoon. We even note some small musket balls and Civil War bullets. Includes the wooden cabinet. A most unusual offering of small treasures that should be inspected prior to bidding. Lot of 70 items.

Rare Romanesque Venetian Limestone Lion of St. Marks. Carved Istrian limestone lion of St. Marks, most likely from a provincial Lombard chruch. The lion's head and mane is set upon its own pedestal, the mouth is partially open, the stone, originally, a light cream patina. As a result of the most natural of weathering to exposure to the elements, piece certainly exhibits its centuries old age, nevertheless clearly enhancing its appeal. Lion stands 16" x 9½" x 18" and weighs approximately 175 pounds. Buyer responsible for third party shipping. Once again, please note the weight.
