Lot 90		1848 First Restrike Breen 1-B R5+ PCGS graded PR64 Brown. Very attractive mix of chocolate and light olive brown with overtones of bluish steel. The fields are nicely reflective and free of hairlines, spots, or stains. This piece would be a gem if not for a short scratch that skips from the middle of the nose to the cheek where it fades out. Very sharply struck early die state with no trace of fine die rust in the field at star 8 (Breen's Series I). Our grade is net Proof-62. According to the PCGS population report only 30 examples of these proof-only first restrikes were struck. Comes with a nice provenance. PCGS population 6; 4 finer, 3 in 65, 1 in 66. Lot 91		1849 First Restrike Proof-Only Breen 1-B Rarity-6. PCGS graded Proof 62 Brown. Uniform light brown and golden tan. Essentially flawless; void of any spots, stains, or contact marks. The only mark is a tiny struck-through line in the middle of the jawline, and this was caused by a piece of lint pressed between the die and planchet. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective but the mirrors are not deep, which is typical of these restrikes. Most likely lightly cleaned long ago, as were most of the coins in the famous King Farouk Palace Collection. This coin is #7 in Rick Coleman's list of first restrike 1849 proof half cents. Includes 1849 C-1 R2 EDS with the reverse rotated 125 degrees CCW AU50, and 1850 C-1 EDS with strike doubling on the date and shallow low spots on both sides AU50. Lot 95		1853 C-1 R1 AU58. A frosty mint state piece that has a few very faint hairlines on the neck. Otherwise this half cent is quite nice; free of any spots, stains or contact marks. Medium steel brown with faded mint color remaining in protected areas on both sides. MDS, Manley state 1.0 late. The die line through the first T in STATES is dull but visible. Lot 97		1854 C-1 R1+ PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Very attractive frosty light chocolate brown and steel with peeps of faded mint color showing on the reverse. Very sharply struck and extremely close to mint state. The only imperfections are a few light nicks in the field off the chin. MDS, Manley state 2.0, showing a shallow lump on the upper part of the I in UNITED. The dash left of the base of the 1 is still clear. Our grade is AU58+. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Lot 98		1854 C-1 R1+ Counterstamped J. BRAMBLE VF30. Glossy medium chocolate brown. No defects (other than the effects of the stamp itself, which was deeply impressed on the obverse). The stamp is in a uniform arc with a 6-pointed star below. This is Brunk B-1051, and he suggests it is from a Philadelphia innkeeper who operated there in the 1850's. Estimated Value $30-UP. Lot 99		1855 C-1 R1 PCGS graded MS63 Brown. Lustrous light olive and steel brown with 5% of the mint color showing on the obverse, 20% on the reverse. Satiny mint frost covers both sides and this half cent offers outstanding eye appeal. No spots, stains, or contact marks. Our grade is MS63+, close to MS64. MDS. The dentils are incomplete, which is normal for business strike 1855 half cents. A beautiful half cent that comes with an important provenance. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. Lot 100		1856 C-1 R2 PCGS graded MS62 Brown. Attractive glossy medium chocolate brown with bluish steel overtones. The only mark is a barely visible rim bruise over the second S in STATES. Nicely struck with full radial lines in all the stars. MDS, Manley state 2.0 early. The lump on the upper part of the I in UNITED is clear. Our grade is AU58. Lot 101		1857 C-1 R2 MS60+. Glossy light chocolate and steel brown with 15% of the mint red remaining. The fields are slightly reflective, especially on the obverse, thanks to a fresh die polishing. The only marks are some microscopic specks of darker toning scattered over the obverse (visible only under strong magnification), a vertical planchet chip in the field above the head (as struck), and a nick hidden under the R in AMERICA. Removed from a PCGS slab graded MS63BN (label #1239.63/40059714 included). An attractive example of our final year of half cent production. Estimated Value $400-UP.
