Lot 328
1844 N-6 R3+ EF45. Frosty light to medium brown with ample mint luster remaining in the fields and protected areas. The only notable marks are a very thin planchet lamination from star 1 to the throat, a few very light contact marks in the field under the hair bun, and a planchet flake in the dentils off the stem tip. MDS, die state c, with a die crack from the second S in STATES through the wreath to the R in AMERICA. A bit softly struck on the coronet over LIB and on the hair at the top of the ear, as usual on this variety. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS63BN (label #1663085-004 included, and it shows the attribution). Comes with a very nice provenance.
Estimated Value $150-UP.

1846 N-1 R1 Small Date, Repunched 18 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. Lustrous light bluish steel brown and tan with at least 5% of the mint red remaining on both sides. No spots or stains. A collection of very light contact marks in the field off the chin is the only distraction, and it is not significant. Sharply struck E-MDS die state b. The die crack through the date and stars is faint and the repunching at the bottom of the 18 is sharp. Our grade is MS62, tied for CC#6 honors in the Grellman census. The attribution is noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 4; none finer.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
