Lot 1921
1872. PCGS graded AU-50. Lovely golden toning. The 1872 issue is one of the toughest to obtain in the entire Liberty eagle series. David Akers states "only the 1875 and 1873 are unquestionably rarer and the 1872 compares favorably to the famous 1858 as well as the lower mintage dates as 1863, 1876 and 1877". For any date specialist of the Liberty Eagle series, the present offering is compelling and certainly should not be missed if a high grade specimen is desired. Only 40 to 60 examples known. Pop 7; 10 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 8663) .
Estimated Value $6,000 - 6,500.
