Lot 1824
1842-C. Large date. PCGS graded AU-58. A nice untoned coin. While the Large Date variety is more plentiful than the Small Date of 1842-C half eagle, this offering still deserves considerable respect, especially so this close to mint state. Most survivors, when found at all, show considerable circulation, while this example is on the cusp of mint state. Well struck and well preserved, precisely what the specialist desires to represent a prized condition rarity. Only 23,589 struck. Pop 5; 7 finer, 2 in 61, 3 in 62, 2 in 63. (PCGS # 8209) .
Estimated Value $6,500 - 7,000.

Lot 1828
1851-C. NGC graded AU-58. Mostly untoned. Residual luster in the protected areas and the date and mintmark are bold. Clean surfaces that reveal little more than minor contact from brief circulation. A condition rarity as most of those known fall well short of the high grade of the present offering. Only 49,176 struck. Pop 17; 12 finer at NGC. (PCGS # 8247) .
Estimated Value $4,500 - 4,800.

Lot 1829
1854-D. Large D. PCGS graded MS-62. A hint of gold tone over abundant satin luster in the fields. Although available in circulated grades, the 1854-D half eagle is a prime rarity in mint state, as not many survived in new condition. Here is one of the finer pieces, with rich orange-gold luster and strong visual appeal. The surfaces are pleasing for the modest grade too. A coin for the Dahlonega Mint specialist or date collector, and one that will always bring a smile to the lucky owner's face. Only 56,413 struck. Pop 9; 6 finer, 3 in 63, 1 in 64, 1 in 64+, 1 in 65. (PCGS # 8258) .
Estimated Value $9,000 - 10,000.

Lot 1831
1856. PCGS graded MS-63+. Well struck and untoned. A high quality survivor from this era and one of the finer 1856 half eagles to come down to us today. One for the condition specialist who needs an example of this date. Pop 1; 3 finer, 2 in 64, 1 in 65. (PCGS # 8266) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 8,500.

Lot 1832
1859-C. NGC graded MS-61+. Light golden toning. Soft strike on the reverse as always seen on this date and mint. This must have been a leftover die or was simply worn out, but pressed into service when coinage was needed. The obverse die is sharp and crisp. Scattered light handling marks, but attractive for this grade level. A rare coin that is virtually unobtainable this well preserved and destined for an advanced Charlotte collection. Only 31,847 struck. Pop 1; 1 finer in 62. (PCGS # 8281) .
Estimated Value $11,000 - 12,000.
