Includes 1851 N-20 R3 MDS (b), 1853 N-15 R2 MDS (b), 1854 N-17 R1 M-LDS (c), and 1855 N-10 R1 Italic 55 E-MDS (c) with die clogs at stars 1 & 6 (the so-called 11 & 1/2 star version, a rare die state). All are slightly sharper with defects. Lot of 4 coins.

  1852 N-1 R1 EF45. Five points sharper but there is a dull rim nick at the E in AMERICA. Glossy light to medium chocolate brown. LDS, die state d (Newcomb's old #2), with several die cracks on the obverse. The repunching under the 1 is gone.

1852 N-14 R1 Repunched Date PCGS Genuine. Frosty golden tan and light brown fading to steel brown on the highpoints. The color looks original, just a but more golden than usually seen. The surfaces are lustrous and the only marks are a diagonal nick on the cheek near the hair, a small spot right of star 13, and another small puff of dark steel toning in the field above star 12. Sharply struck EDS, die state a. Obvious repunching is visible on all 4 digits of the date and the fine die lines from the dentils at stars 1-2 are clear. Our grade is MS60 (PCGS # 1899) .

1852 N-22 R1 PCGS graded MS65 Red. Lustrous mint red fading to light steel brown with more than half the mint color remaining. The only marks are a thin diagonal nick or planchet void on the 1 in the date and a dull nick on the two right points of star 2. LDS, die state d (Newcomb's old #9), with die cracks on both sides and weakness from die wear on the lower part of the date. Our grade is MS64, tied for CC#7 honors in the Grellman census.

1852 N-23 R5 NGC graded MS62 Brown. Frosty light to medium chocolate brown and steel. The surfaces are satiny and the eye appeal is excellent. The only marks are two small nicks on the rim under the 5 in the date, and neither is visible without the aid of a glass. E-MDS, die state a, before any rim cud breaks on the reverse. Our grade is AU50, CC#6 overall for the variety but CC#2 of those known without at least one rim cud.

1853 N-1 R2 AU58. Attractive frosty brown and chocolate with underlying golden tan in protected areas, especially on the obverse. No spots or stains. The only defect is a shallow chip out of the rim between stars 4 & 5. Just a hint of friction on the highest points from mint state. MDS, die state b. The vertical die lines inside the right part of the wreath are still sharp.

1853 N-10 R1 Repunched Date. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Lustrous bluish steel brown and light olive with mellowed mint red covering at least 25% of the obverse and 10% of the reverse. Nearly flawless. A tiny nick on the upper right point of star 3 is a good identifying mark, but you need a glass to see it. MDS, die state b. The repunching is still visible on all 4 digits, clearest on the 18. Our grade is MS63.

1853 N-19 R1 Repunched 1853. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Highly lustrous mint red just starting to fade to light bluish steel brown, about 80% of the mint red remaining. Has to be very close to a Red designation. Essentially flawless except for a shallow planchet chip on the rim over star 7, as struck. Otherwise this cent is a solid gem. LDS, die state c. The repunching on the 1, 8 & 5 is gone but it is still clearly visible on the 3. The small lump near the dentils below the 3 is dull but visible. A beautiful cent with lots of flash. Our grade is MS64+, CC#3 in the Grellman census. Comes with a great provenance. PCGS population 3; none finer at PCGS for the variety. Tied for finest graded RB by both services. The attribution is shown on the PCGS label (PCGS # 406025) .

1853 N-19 R1 Repunched 1853 PCGS graded MS65 Brown. Lustrous light chocolate and steel brown with at least 5% of the mint red remaining visible on the obverse, 15% on the reverse. A very attractive cent that appears choice to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals a few small spots of carbon on both sides, the notable ones being on the upper left point of star 1 and under the left base of the R in AMERICA. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state b early. Repunching is still evident at the base of all 4 digits, strongest on the 8 & 3, but the die line down from star 12 is gone. The small lump near the dentils under the left edge of the 5 is clear. Our grade is MS62+, close to MS63.

1855 N-4 R1 Upright 55 NGC graded MS65 Red. Lustrous bright original mint red just starting to tone steel brown on the highest points of the devices. There are traces of lacquer or some other substance on both sides, apparently added to help preserve the original mint color. The only marks are a small rim nick over star 4 and a spot of fine carbon at the left top of the T in CENT. Sharply struck EDS, die state a, before any die cracks or rim cuds. Our grade is MS64.

1855 N-10 R5+ (as a proof) Italic 55 PCGS graded PR64 Brown. Attractive medium brown and tan. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective without any obvious hairlines. The only marks are tiny specks of darker toning scattered over both sides. A small spot of dark toning hidden in the recessed part of the inner curl and a small circle of dark toning between the upper left points of star 12 are the best identifying marks. Our grade is Proof-60. PCGS population (which includes N-10 and N-11 proof strikes) is 7; 5 finer, 1 in 64+, 3 in 65, 1 in 66.

Sharply struck EDS, die state a. The peak of a stray 1 is clearly visible at the bust tip and fine die finishing lines are visible at S-OF-A. Our grade is MS63.
