Lot 1025
A strong box recovered from the Nevada desert. This is an interesting story, our consignor was poking around in the area around Twin Falls, Idaho, near a known stage coach stop along the Oregon Trail with a metal detector, when a strong signal was heard. Digging down into the sand, he soon discovered this heavy metal strong box. One of the handles is missing, probably during some robbery years ago. The box itself is black in color, and in remarkably good shape for having been buried so long. The dimensions are 7¼ inches high, 12½ inches long and 8 ¾ inches deep. Obviously a secure box, as it weighs quite a bit. Don't try to lug this thing too far, its heavy! A conversation piece for a collector, or an excellent door stop. We have been unable to locate any maker's marks and more research could prove to be quite rewarding.
Estimated Value $150-UP.

Love Token. No date. Quarter eagle, "KAM". . -250. The obverse was smoothed and reengraved with multiple encircling designs with KAM in fine script at the centers. Mounted on the reverse with remnants of solder on either side where a pin mount was removed. Slightly bent, and the edge has a few minor rough spots. Gold love tokens are seldom found, most people could only afford silver coins on which to work, so this is one of the "fancier" gold pieces used.

Lot 1034
1794 Liberty Cap Cent. An extraordinary love token, first because it is on a colonial coin, and second because it is well preserved. As we know, most of these love tokens were done on coins about a century after this piece was likely removed from circulation. The obverse has been reengraved with the fancy script lettering "JIM" in descending letters, with long loopy tails. A prize for the advanced love token numismatist, or for a special "JIM" out there.
Estimated Value $300-UP.

Love Token. 1854 Seated Quarter, "MAO" with a wonderful mounting pin. . -25. Make sure to take a moment to view the unique pin on the back of this love token. The original pin must have been lost, and a short brass nail was carefully twisted to into place to hold the hinge together. It works fine today. The host quarter is a with arrows type. No hole. Fancy script border around cursive letters.
