Four Slave Documents (1) 1841 bill of sale from Maury County, Tennessee for a 28-year-old slave woman named Edy, sold for $600 to by A.R. Cartwright to William A. Dair in Alabama (2) 1838 letter from Sarah Teasley in Richmond, Va. informing Mr. Whitmore that she had sold a slave woman named Rose for him (3) 1854 Missouri bill of sale for a 22-year-old slave named Simeon for $980; and (4) a 1788 report from the constable of Bedford, County, Pa. including information that no "Negroes or Mulatoes" had been imported into the county.

Three Slave Documents Pertaining to CSA General William Mahone (1) Pre-printed document signed by Samuel W. Gregory, acknowledging receipt of $925 from William Mahone, for the purchase of a negro slave named Celey, aged about 21, 4½ x 8", Norfolk, Mar. 24, 1857. Gregory warrants the right, title, and good health of the slave. Receipt is also signed by William Hall, who owned a slave pen in Norfolk. Pre-printed slave receipts are less common than handwritten ones.
(2) James Y. Leigh, executor of the estate of George L. Upshur deceased, acknowledges receipt from William Mahone of $1,450 for "negro woman Tamar, and her three children James, Mary and Jenny, belonging to the estate…together with the future increase of the females of the said slaves….," 9¾ x 7¾", n.p., Dec. 25, 1856. William Mahone was a Confederate Major General, also a civil engineer, teacher, railroad builder, and Senator in the U.S. Congress.
(3) Manuscript "Deed of Gift," signed by (Dr.) Robert Butler, 4¾ x 7¾", Aug. 1, 1837, giving "my daughter Otelia Butler as a birthday present, her little pet Dickie…son of Caroline…." Otelia married William Mahone in 1855.
