1898. NGC graded Proof 67 Cameo. Wonderful light golden toning. Only 735 minted. The stupendous Proof offered here not only shatters the normally seen average detail, but its sparkling colorful surfaces border on perfection. In fact, only scattered few turn up each year in this condition. We have summarized the luster. In winding up this description, we point to it being a strongly struck Proof, with keen-edge detail to all the important high points. Pop 24; 11 finer, 2 in 67 Star, 8 in 68, 1 in 68 Star .
Estimated Value $2,700 - 2,800.

Lot 1065
1900. NGC graded Proof 67+. Lovely even blue obverse toning. The reverse showing blue and golden colors. Only 912 struck. Pop 1; 6 finer in 68.

1900, an historic year, monetarily: The Gold Standard Act of the United States was passed in 1900 (approved on March 14) and established gold as the only standard for redeeming paper money, stopping bimetallism (which had allowed silver in exchange for gold). It was signed by President William McKinley. The Act fixed the value of the dollar at 25-8/10 grains of gold at "nine-tenths fine" (90% purity), equivalent to 23.22 grains (1.5046 grams) of pure gold.

The Gold Standard Act confirmed the United States' commitment to the gold standard by assigning gold a specific dollar value (just over $20.67 per Troy ounce). This took place after McKinley sent a team to Europe to try to make a silver agreement with France and Great Britain. On April 25, 1933, the United States and Canada dropped the gold standard.
Estimated Value $2,200 - 2,300.

Lot 1068
1908. NGC graded Proof 67. Wonderful blue and golden toning on both sides. Only 545 minted. A rare high quality coin for the date, this example displays almost enthralling color whose light satin devices give contrast beneath the toning. Happily for the strike, it, like the luster, is outstanding. A well-struck Proof with simply outstanding details. There are no bothersome weak areas. Pop 18; 4 finer in 68.
Estimated Value $2,500 - 2,600.
