Allen, Peter - His First U.S. Contract (1944-1992) Australian songwriter and entertainer. Peter Allen's first U.S. contract signed twice, once on page 11 of the "Exclusive Writer's Agreement…As of November 6, 1970" and on page 2 of an "Amendment to Exclusive Writer's Agreement…As of November 9, 1970." Additionally, Allen initialed each page, excluding the signature pages, for a total of 11 pages. The contract was with Valando Music, Inc. of New York, which engaged Allen's "exclusive services as a songwriter and/or composer…during the terms of this agreement." The contract was for an intial period of one year, with two options to extend for another year. Allen co-wrote many hits, including the theme from "Arthur," "I Honestly Love You," "I Go to Rio," and "Don't Cry Out Loud." Mark Herron, Judy Garland's fourth husband discovered Allen in Hong Kong in 1965 and he returned to the States with Herron and Garland and performed with Garland. Allen was married to Liza Minelli (1967-1974) when he signed this contract. Estimated Value $250 - 300

Helen's last name is illegible (possibly Palmer) because it is written on the dark portion of Miss Davis' dress. Diagonal creasing in lower right corner, affecting the crook of her left elbow, and some light creasing at left margin and top, lightly touching her hair and one lightly visible crease on her lower forehead and right eyebrow. Miss Davis writes: "Dear Helen Rayburn, Agreed - your husband is adorable. So are you to invite me to Sandtree. I hope one day I will have this pleasure. I am returning to Cal.!! next week. Will put your Osterville address in my 'little red book'….As to 'nothing to do. I am a country woman. The days aren't long enough for what a home like yours offers. Again my deep thanks.
