Ten tickets for the May 1-Oct. 30, 1893 fair held in Chicago, including seven general admission tickets (one marked "Complimentary," one "Music and one "Children's Special Ticket"); the other tickets are for Manhattan Day (Oct. 21), Chicago Day (Oct. 9) and the other for an unspecified day of sale only. One stub is attached, one other present but detached, and the others not present. Fine condition. Estimated Value $150 - 200

1966 Texas Sniper Newspaper. August 2, 1966 issue of The Austin American signed by patrolman Ramiro Martinez, who put the first shot into engineering student and former U.S. Marine and sharpshooter Charles Whitman, who killed 17 people and wounded 32 others before being killed. The headline reads: "Sniper in U.T. Tower 'Fortress' Shot After 90 Minutes of Terror." After Martinez shot Whitman, two shots from patrolman Houston McCoy finished Whitman off. Martinez signed across his photo in the newspaper. Estimated Value $150 - 200

[Early Oregon Letter About Gold, Whaling, and Business]. Great content autograph letter signed by Frank C. Lewis, 24 pp, 5 x 8 in., Salem, Oregon, May 11, 1891. To S.A. Hayward in Easton, Mass., describing life since leaving "Old Plymouth" and considering getting "a crew of old whalemen to come here and settle down…." He draws a whale he saw washed up on shore ten miles north of where he was mining and describes how the swordfish and the thrasher attack a whale: "…the sword fish will come up underneath the whale…and give him a awful stab…that makes the whale scoot high up out of the…water. Then the thrasher…comes down on his back…that sounds like a crack of thunder…you…ought to see how the whale makes the water fly and foam in his desperate efforts to ward off the enemy…there is no better people…than the Cape Cod people to stock any place…the state of Oregon has no natural harbors…" He describes the steamers carrying coal and lumber to San Francisco, a railroad connecting San Francisco with Portland, and states that he is sending "the samples of gold." Also, "we have opened a shop and are getting quite a run in business, buggies, signs, decorating, & kalsomining…." With transmittal envelope. Fine. Estimated Value $300 - 500

The Pittsburgh & Lake Erie Railroad Company. Fifteen Time Books for the P. & L.E. Division, six books from 1902, one from 1903, four from 1908, and four from 1909. Six list headquarters as Beaver Falls, one as MKees Rocks, and the remainder as Coraopolis. Each book lists names of men working, the hours they worked, and the various kinds of work they did, which included grading for tracks, clearing and repairing tracks, putting in rails, changing and lighting lamps, etc. Good to very good condition. Prisoner Cards From the 1880s, 90s and Early 1900s. Group of 14 cards of prisoners from California, New York, and Pennsylvania, with carte-de-visite-size photos on the front and descriptions on the back; two women are among the group. Most cards give names, residence, legitimate and criminal occupation, physical description, and when and where arrested. A 15th card is torn and has no information except the prisoner's number which is attached to his jacket. Expected wear and soiling. Estimated Value $150 - 200

Radio Orphan Annie and Melvin Purvis Junior G- Man Corps Memorabilia. Four items, including three Radio Orphan Annie items: (1) A 1936 badge-shaped pin with two keys crossed in the middle and the initials "ROA SS" (Radio Orphan Annie Secret Society) (2) "Radio Orphan Annie's Secret Society 1936" 10-page booklet with new signs, signals, codes, and secrets; and (3) "Radio Orphan Annie's Book About Dogs,"31 pages. The two booklets have a young girl's name, Ruth Waite, written in pencil. The fourth item is a Melvin Purvis Junior G-Man Corps, Girls Division pin. Orphan Annie was a 15- minute serial radio show based on the comic strip by Harold Gray. Debuting in 1931, it was the first late-afternoon children's serial, and Ovaltine was the sponsor. Melvin Purvis was the G Man who shot John Dillinger. Estimated Value $150 - 200

Twenty-one cards were published in Berlin by Oranienburg-Eden, and feature coins from the U.S., China, Japan, Great Britain, Mexico, Belgium, Hungary, Italy, Morocco, Dutch Indies, Peru, Siam, Switzerland, Turkey, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Egypt, France, and Greece; a 22nd card for Morocco is of French origin. Steel Document Box With Scottish Royal Coat of Arms. 19 x 16½ x 3¼ inches, dark green, adorned with the colorful Scottish Royal Coat of Arms. "Nemo Me Impune Larcessit," (No one attacks me with impunity") is on a blue scroll across the bottom; this is the motto of the Order of the Thistle, the Scots Guards, the Royal Regiment of Scotland, and the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. The motto "In Defens" is covered by a brass plaque which reads "'Dodson / Horncastle / 1504"; we doubt that the box dates back to 1504 but it does have some age to it. Only one of the two sliding levers is present but it keeps the box closed; key not present. Very attractive. Estimated Value $200 - 300
