Lot 1538
1949. PCGS graded MS-66+ Full Bell Lines. A glittering creamy-white gem. Silver satin luster on a well presented and fully struck example. Elusive as a Gem and better, to say the least. A very pleasing example of this 1949-S Key Date. So ends the discussion of the luster. Now on to the detail. This piece is not just close to, but completely and sharply struck, with terrific detail at the portrait and on the high points of the bell. This is an example which proves once and for all the existence of an all-seeing, benevolent Providence, since the rigid grading standards set up by PCGS were obviously in place when this coin received the 66 grade! A candidate for "Finest Known"! Pop 2; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 86653) Estimated Value $3,000-UP

1949-D. PCGS graded MS-65 Full Bell Lines. This is a sparkling silver specimen radiating mint bloom, powerfully struck and impeccably preserved. Unlike many which are not quite fully struck on the horizontal lines of the Liberty bell, this marvel of precision minting shows all regions crisply detailed including the those areas. Pop 543; 37 finer, 4 in 65+, 33 in 67. (PCGS # 86654) Estimated Value $500 - 700

Lot 1541
1950. PCGS graded MS-67 Full Bell Lines. CAC Approved. A superb satiny mint gem with delicate hints of natural pastel toning about the borders. Metal flow enhances the glittering mint luster that covers the surfaces, giving the coin a shimmering, satin appearance. The original mint brilliance is only interrupted by an occasional aura of pale patina. It is easy to see this piece was delivered a hard blow by the dies, or as some researchers believe, the dies were nearly new and carefully set in the equipment to impart the requisite force, and which imparted their sharpness to the struck planchet. More to the point, we feel that enthusiastic admirers of the series will recognize its importance at once, and that the sight of other bidders in action should nerve the ultimate purchaser with the strength to assign this a bid indispensable to its superior condition. Pop 6; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 86656) Estimated Value $5,000-UP

1950. NGC graded Proof 66 Cameo. Fully struck and extraordinarily clean with thick, creamy mint frost on devices. Wholly brilliant with outstanding gleaming mirrors. Since it is a Proof, there is every reason to expect it to be struck with technical exactness throughout. Pop 47; 16 finer, 2 in 66 Star, 1 in 66+, 9 in 67, 3 in 67 Star, 1 in 68. 1951. NGC graded MS-66 Full Bell Lines. Wonderful pastel lavender lilac to silvery blue toning evenly balanced over both sides. Clean as a whistle in terms of an absence of marks, as one would expect from the grade; however, what really sets this coin apart from others is its smooth underlying luster that rolls around each side. A hint of weakness at that is typically found on Franklins at the Liberty bell is missing on this sharply struck Full Bell Lines specimen, with the key central areas strongly hit by the dies. Pop 18; 1 finer in 67. Estimated Value $700 - 1,000

1951-S. PCGS graded MS-67 Full Bell Lines. Magnificent multi-color rainbow toning on both sides. Probably the "Finest Known" business strike example. We shall always remember the morning this piece arrived at our offices. It so happened that the day before we had been present at a rather cheery little Morgan Dollar consignment which the staff was unpacking, and we were feeling pretty elated. When in walked this fantastic Finest Known from the #1 ranked Napier Set. Words could be extended three ways from Sunday describing the coin to you, but enjoy the photographs, square your shoulders before bidding, and prepare for some anticipated action. Only 30,000 struck. Pop 2; None finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 86660) Estimated Value $12,500-UP

1951-S. NGC graded MS-66 Full Bell Lines. This is a lovely, radiant Gem, both sides being essentially well toned with frosty underlying luster. From the balanced color, circumstantial evidence suggests there is every reason to believe this came from an original Mint Set, though no confirming evidence supports this opinion. Judged from an aesthetic standpoint, the coin is also possessed of a much finer strike than is typically found for virtually any S-mint Franklin half dollar from the 1950s, particularly an elusive full bell lines 1951-S. Pop 14; 2 finer, 1 in 66 Star, 1 in 67 Star. Estimated Value $600 - 1,000

1952. PCGS graded Proof 66 Deep Cameo. CAC Approved. Only 81,980 struck. An exciting example of a relatively straightforward date in the Franklin Half Dollar series, this untoned blazing gem displaying vivid mirrors against which rise well frosted devices. Clearly, an early strike by new dies. Furthermore, it being a Proof, this is a well-struck example with excellent details. It has no bothersome water marks or haze getting in the way of your enjoyment of its endless merits. Pop 5; 1 finer in 67. (PCGS # 96693) Estimated Value $8,000 - 12,000

1957-D. PCGS graded MS-67 Full Bell Lines. Even violet toning on the obverse and beautiful turquoise toning on the reverse. This conditionally challenging Franklin Half Dollar contribution to the sale is lustrous with supremely frosty surfaces. The strike is free of censure, as well, being sharp in all areas. On the heels of such active luster and strike perfection, we are pleased to describe a coin faithful to every detail from a full blow by the dies to the key bell lines on the LIBERTY bell.
