Lot 517		Ancient Egyptian Gold Oktadrachm, c. 285-246 BC, Pendant. Ptolemaic Kingdom, Arsinoe II Gold Oktadrachm (34.2 gr. total weight). Minted at Alexandria and issued by Ptolemy II (285-246 BC). Veiled head of Arsinoe II wearing stephane; to left, Phi. Reverse: Double cornucopiae bound with fillet. Sear 7768 var. Housed in a custom 20 kt gold bezel with ring. The grade of the coin is About Fine with nice even wear. The sister-wife of Ptolemy II was deified on her death in 270 BC and this is part of a remarkable series of commemorative coins instituted in high-value precious metal denominations.
