Exceptional High Relief 1893 Liberty Head Medal. Eglit-51. NGC graded Proof 66 Ultra Cameo. Aluminum, 50mm. This is of the most popular medals from the World's Columbian Exposition and one of a few to grade this high. It was produced in 6 different sizes ranging from 23mm to 120mm. The high relief, left facing head of Liberty on the obverse has initials W.M. for Wilhelm Mayer below the truncation. A scene of Columbus landing is on the reverse. One of the finest known. Only one or two are believed to grade higher.

Democratic Presidential Nominee medal, Eglit-81, Aluminum, 44mm, holed at 12 o'clock, with busts of Cleveland and Stevenson above White House on obverse. Republican Presidential Nominee medals, Eglit-82, Aluminum, 44mm, same as E-81 but with busts of Harrison and Morton. Both medals have same reverse, showing Columbus landing scene superimposed on globe shaped map of world. These medals are known with and without hole for suspension. NGC certifed in separate holders.

1982 Columbus Monument, Mexico City. Eglit-83. AU-58. Bronze, 60mm. The monument to Columbus as depicted on this medal was errected in the Plaza Buena Vista in Mexico City to honor the 400th anniversary of Columbus discovering America. It was designed by Cargetrano Ocampo Grabador. This medal is dark brown with a few scattered contact marks on both the obverse and reverse. There is one small spot of corrosion on the obverse in field next to top of left pillar of monument.

Undated (C1893, 1909) Lincoln - With Malice Toward None Medal, Zearing Medal. Eglit-85A. NGC graded MS-65. bronze, 45mm. Obverse has half length beardless bust of Lincoln facing right. Engraver's signature, H. Zearing, in left field. On reverse contained within a shield is a 13 line quote from Lincoln's 2nd inaugural address. This medal, although listed in Eglit with a similar variety by the same engraver, has also been attributed as issued in 1909 as part of Lincoln's birth centennial. Regardless, this is a very pleasing example with medium brown surfaces with traces of red.

1892-93 Official Columbian Exposition Award Medal, Advertising Piece, Eglit-90, Cast Bronze. 75mm, 260g. This is a cast copy of the Official Award medal issued to R.Thorne & Sons. Cast copies like this were produced with permission of the U.S. Treasury Department for advertising and promotional purposes. Being cast it lacks the fine details of the orignal and its surface is rough with tiny pimples and pits. It is a rarity that should not be over-looked. Uncirculated.

1892 Committee of One Hundred Citizens Medal with Original Box. Eglit-98A. MS-65 Brown. Bronze, 57mm. Obverse has youthful bust of Columbus at center with three caravels in ocean. Reverse has Spanish shield at top, American shield at bottom, and inscription in center. Issued to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by the Committee of One Hundred Citizens of New York. Uniform dark brown color with four or five tiny carbon spots on the obverse and reverse. Medal comes with its original brown cardboard box. An attractive and somewhat elusive piece.

However, Hibler and Kappen differentiated between the two distinct varieties. HK-154 has large letters in obverse legend. It grades MS-63. HK-155 has small letters in the obverse legend. It has Uncirculated Details but has been cleaned.

Only a few tiny carbon spots kept it from grading higher. A definite rarity in this grade.

1893 Chicago Iron Works Medal, Eglit-28. Pot metal, 69mm. This medal is unusually well preserved. Most medals produced in pot metal will show significant signs of corrosion and environmental damaged. This medal, with the Administration Building in high relief of the obverse was issued by the Western Office in Helena, Montana. It has a few dark areas of oxidation on the obverse and a light coating of lacqure on the reverse. Our grade MS-62 to MS-63.

1893 Civilization Medal, Eglit-106, white metal, 102mm. MS-63. Obverse elder Columbus bust 1/4 to left in center with Indian and female figures at edge. Reverse highly detailed, intricate scene of "Civilization" and Genii above Native American Indians sitting on American coastline. This medal was designed by Pagliaghi, engraved by Capuccio, and struck by Stefano Johnson in Milan, Italy. Like similar Eglit this is also among the most artistic of the Columbian Expo medals. This medal is encased in a custom acryllic holder, with attribution engraved into holder.

1893 Columbus Bust - Administration Building. Eglit-135. Pot metal, 69mm, 8.4mm thick, 194g. This extremely high relief medal was engraved by A.O. Ameis. It has a light coating of lacquer which was probably applied during production to preserve the medal and inhibit corrosion. There are two spots where minor corrosion had occurred on reverse in the denticles about the dome. The reverse also has a small patch of hairlines in the left field. Also on the reverse fields are several pits from the casting process. This medal grades MS-62.

1893 Declaration of Independence Medal. Eglit-36A. NGC graded AU-55. Copper plated white metal as issued, 58mm. A very pleasing example of this type. The copper plated issues rarely survive cabinet friction or even minimul handing well, uspually oxidizing unnaturally, corroding or developing crack in the plating that flake off. This metal avoided much of that and only a couple spots were plating has thinned to reveal white metal beneath can be seen.

This souvenir of the exposition is watch opener but was adopted by token and medal collectors, such as Nathan Eglit who included it in his book. The legends are incuse on both the obverse and reverse. This piece is extremely rare due to still being attached to its original information card. The medal is Uncirculated.
