Lot 438
1788 Vermont Ryder-18 Rarity-5 G5. The ET LIB * * INDE type (see page 68 in the "Redbook"). Sharpness F12 but there is shallow pitting on much of the obverse. The reverse is smooth but it does show some faint hairline scratches hidden in the natural dark chocolate brown patina. The bisecting obverse die crack is strong. Struck over another unidentified coin (most likely a Connecticut) with an "N" visible where the date should be at the bottom of the reverse, although the "88" from the date remains faintly visible. A tough variety and type. Weight 99.5 grains.
Estimated Value $200-UP.
From the Dr. Charles Ruby collection.
