1853-O $20 Liberty. EF-45. Scarce in high grade, mintage fell in 1853 for New Orleans to 71,000 pieces. Difficult to locate this nice. Moderate handling marks, but better than usually encountered. Some luster in the fields, and very well struck on all the obverse stars.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.

Lot 4108
1861 $20 Liberty. NGC graded MS-65. A blazer of this common date in exceptional condition. Now that the S.S. Central America coins have been graded, this so-called common date looks downright rare in this grade. Be sure to view it carefully to fully appreciate its resplendent luster, pristine surfaces and excellent strike. Struck as the Civil War was brewing hot and heavy, and possibly set aside to wait out the upcoming "short" war. An opportunity.
NGC has only graded 4 coins this high, with none graded higher. PCGS has also graded 4 this high, with a single coin graded higher. Therefore, this coin is tied with several others for the second finest known of this date. While downright common in lower grades, in choice to gem condition, this date is virtually unheard of. A few very minor copper specks on the lower right obverse rim, and both sides have delicate rose-gold toning. An outstanding example of this date, and worthy of the finest collection.
Estimated Value $20,000 - 25,000.

Lot 4109
1882-CC $20 Liberty. MS-60. The reverse is slightly prooflike. As with most Carson City coinage, the fields and devices show moderate handling marks, as expected for the grade, but this one retains lots of eye-appeal. Scarce in Uncirculated condition and ever popular with collectors.
Estimated Value $3,500 - 4,000.

1907 $20 St. Gaudens. High relief, Roman numerals, wire rim. PCGS graded MS-64. A very choice example of this most famous coin. The High Relief has always been a favorite of collectors, from the day they were coined forward to today. Well struck by the dies, with the satiny swirl lines noted in the fields from the careful die polishing. Decidedly few bagmarks or handling marks, this coin has the appearance of a higher grade. Certain to please the collector who has long desired to own just the "right" specimen.
Estimated Value $14,000-UP.

1908 $20 St. Gaudens. No motto. NGC graded MS-66. A magnificent gem coin that boasts delicate coppery toning and blazing luster. The strike is full and complete on all but the middle section of the eagle, which shows minor weakness. Pristine fields, devices and rims, making this gem stand head and shoulders above most others.
Estimated Value $1,350 - 1,450.

1911-S $20 St. Gaudens. NGC graded MS-65. Only 135 graded this high by NGC, with just 15 graded higher (all MS-67) which places this coin near the top of the heap of the survivors for the date. Blazing gold luster and well struck by the San Francisco Mint, but most important of all, this coin shines in the preservation department, with clean surfaces keeping it in the gem class.
