Lot 1347
1928 $20 St. Gaudens. PCGS graded MS-67. One of the very finest of the entire type to survive, this stunning MS-67 example boasts flaming luster and nearly perfect surfaces. A glass will locate a tick mark or two, but fields, devices and rims are very nearly as perfect as the moment they were coined. This condition is highly unusual. In fact, PCGS in their Population Report notes that only 44 of this date have been graded this high, with none graded higher. As a type (from 1908 to 1932) only 154 have been graded as MS-67, with just 2 coins graded higher of the entire type. At first glance, one assumes this is a late 1990s mint bullion coin, the surfaces are so bright and fresh. If you demand the finest available, and one of the very finest known, then buy this coin.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.
