1819 N-2 R1 Large Date VF30. At least ten points sharper but there is a fine scratch from the bottom of star 5 to the tip of the nose and a tiny rim bruise at star 10. Otherwise this piece is very attractive. Glossy chocolate and steel brown with frosty tan and light steel brown faded down from mint color in protected areas. EDS with hard, slightly reflective fields on both sides. The recutting at the 9 is sharp and the repunching on the 8 is obvious. Holmes #0474.

1819 N-4 R3 Close Stars NGC Graded VF details, improperly cleaned. Misaligned Dies. Lightly cleaned and retoning golden tan and light steel brown. No marks or roughness; just needs a proper recoloring. The obverse is badly misaligned to K-11 while the reverse is off only very slightly to K-1. A bold example of this type of mint error. Our grade is F15 sharpness net VG10 for the light cleaning. The NGC label mentions the Misaligned Die error.

There is a bit of fine verdigris at star 9 and a few light scratches inside the wreath, but overall this piece is decent for the grade. Extremely rare late die state with an internal cud break connecting stars 3-5, and the section outside the cud is sunken slightly as a retained cud break. In the terminal state, the internal cud is fully raised under star 5 while that area is only partially raised on this example. In addition, there is a small planchet clip affecting the dentils under the first 1 in the date and the opposing ones over the E in STATES. Noyes photo #34473. Holmes #1889.

No verdigris. A depression in the dentils between stars 7 & 8 and another in the dentils at ME in AMERICA are the notable marks. Slightly glossy light olive and darker steel brown. Early die state. Struck with the obverse die badly misaligned to K-7 while the reverse is perfectly centered. Our grade is net VG10. The misaligned die feature is not mentioned on the NGC label.

1835 N-13 R4 Head of 1834 VF35. Ten points sharper but cleaned and retoned a rather blotchy mix of light chocolate brown and dark steel. No marks other than a few very tiny rim nicks over the first A in AMERICA. MDS with an arc of clashmarks from impressed dentils above ONE but before the narrow rim cuds at D-S and ST. The obverse fields are smooth and rather reflective while the reverse is frosty from having been used in no less than three earlier die marriages (1835 N-18 and N-12 and 1831 N-2). I suspect this cent would benefit from a proper recoloring to eliminate the uneven toning and improve the eye appeal. It may be high enough in the condition census to warrant such an effort.

The obverse is glossy chocolate and olive brown while the reverse is a lighter shade of frosty light steel brown with hints lighter toning faded down from mint color in a few places. There are some extremely faint contact marks hidden in the glossy toning in the obverse fields but the reverse is choice and looks closer to AU50. LDS. The fine die cracks on the reverse are clear and the reverse is upset oriented head-to-head rather than the usual head-to-foot. Holmes #0855.

M-LDS with several die cracks on the obverse and tiny but clearly defined rim cud breaks above star 4 and right of star 11. A very nice cent.
