O'Keefe, Georgia (1887-1986) A leading American artist of the 20th century. Part of the avant-garde movement in New York, her career was promoted by photographer and art impresario Alfred Stiglitz, whom she married in 1924. From 1929, when she started visiting New Mexico, her art celebrated the American Southwest. In 1949 she moved to New Mexico. Autograph Letter Signed, 2pp, 11 x 8½ in., n.p. (New Mexico), n.d. To a local friend in New Mexico, "Richard!" distressed over the disappearance of her cat while walking with her at dusk. "…Half way home I noticed he wasn't with me--called--then came on home…he never came. It was a wet evening--almost raining--the ground wet….He had brought home a big squirrel the day befor [sic]--and had eaten it all but the tail--he was looking so sleek and fine….I dont mind if he goes wild and has a good life but he was so beautiful I don't like the idea that some thing ate him like he ate that fine fat sqirrel. It makes me not sorry that it rains--as I know you are not apt to come over in the rain…. I would like to see you but I am just too distressed not to have the cat to show you. So--when you look out and see it raining--just know how I feel about it. …Sincerely Georgia Okeefe." Normal folds, else very fine.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.
