Lot Photo Description Realized
Lot 2683
1899-S. PCGS graded MS-66. Well struck with nice blue and gold colors. A simply exquisite Gem, the billowy surfaces are glistening with full, frosty textured luster under the marvelous toning. Mathematically exact standards are what you would expect for a Morgan dollar in ’66 grade, and this is seen in the sharp centers, making this date noteworthy since "average" detail in the key high points, such as lessened detail is more often the case. Pop 102; 9 finer (PCGS # 7262) .
Estimated Value $1,400 - 1,500.

Lot 2684
1899-S. PCGS graded MS-65. Light golden toning. Well struck and lustrous, the mint frost on Morgan dollars struck at San Francisco is almost always "showy" and vibrant on the best preserved specimens such as this MS65. The luster dances across the surface. When held in the hand and rotated, the coin displays the familiar cartwheel appearance (PCGS # 7262) .
Estimated Value $1,300 - 1,400.

Lot 2687
1901. PCGS graded MS-61 CAC Approved. A hint of light natural toning appears on the reverse. A very scarce date in full Mint State. The silvery surfaces show lovely satin vibrancy on both sides, which is only broken by a few of the normal bagmarks seen on Morgan dollars in this grade class. There are a few miniscule nicks on Liberty's cheek, and a light luster graze in the left obverse field (PCGS # 7272) .
Estimated Value $2,100 - 2,300.

Lot 2688
1901. PCGS graded MS-61. Scarce date in Mint State. In this period in our history, most silver dollars stayed in bank vaults as backing for silver certificate paper money. Out west, dollars circulated, but east of the Mississippi, the public and businesses preferred folding currency. When the Pittman Act became law in 1918, over 270 MILLION silver dollars then being stored were melted. The resulting silver ingots were shipped to Britain and then on to India to ease a silver-panic that was shaking their economy. It might be that a large percentage of the 1901-P issue ended up in this group. Those that weren't had almost all entered circulation. To this day, lustrous Mint States, like the MS61 on offer, are scarcer than other P-mint dates of 1896-1904, far scarcer (PCGS # 7272) .
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,200.

Lot 2689
1901. PCGS graded MS-61. Frosty and lightly toned. Popular scarce date in full Mint State. A well struck coin that has good luster. The surfaces have numerous light abrasions that preclude a higher grade. It bears repeating, the '01-P is an important conditional rarity within the Morgan Dollar series (PCGS # 7272) .
Estimated Value $2,000 - 2,200.

Lot 2691
1901. NGC graded AU-58. Just a hairs-breath away from full mint state. Lightly toned. The paucity of high grade and Mint State business strikes has always put significant pressure on the tiny supply of AU 1901 Morgan silver dollars. No one is quite sure why so few exit in Mint condition. Possibly many were melted in 1918 (Pittman Act, in which more than two hundred million silver dollars were melted and sold to Great Britain at a time of silver panic in its colony in India) (PCGS # 7272) .
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,250.

1904. PCGS graded Proof 63. A film of delicate light violet toning appears on both sides. Shimmering reflective fields. Our observation of the luster ends. But pertaining to the devices, this coin was struck with methodical precision throughout, as expected for a Proof Morgan Dollar of the era. Only 650 Proofs struck (PCGS # 7339) .

1921. NGC graded MS-65 Deep Mirror Prooflike. Well struck and totally white with nice mirror surfaces. Sleek in color frosty devices seesaw with the surrounding field whose reflective quality is unusual to find in a 1921 Morgan Silver Dollar. At best, it is not easy even a baggy prooflike specimen. So too crisp definition on the main devices counts for a lot. Mathematically exact standards are seen in the sharp hair curls and so too, the eagle's plumage. Pop 7; none finer.
